PROGRAM: SPINNING AND DYEING YOUR OWN WOOL FOR CREWEL EMBROIDERY WORK with Nancy Van Tassel crewel embroidery off the web From Nancy:   "For my presentation I will show what type of wool to spin, how to spin it, ply it, skein it and dye it. I will also bring in some pieces that I have done with my own handspun crewel wool and I can give a demonstration on how to do the actual embroidery if there is interest in that. Treadles to Threads Christmas Party December 15, 11 AM at the home of Carol Causey  [ask Pam for directions if you don't know how to get there] Bring a side dish or dessert to share and a sheep Christmas tree ornament to exchange. Hand made would be great, but a purchased one is just fine. There is a link for directions for a fairly simple sheep in last month's blog. Also, bring your finished skein of Dreamy Goat Fiber that was given out at the September meeting. This is our challenge project for this year. You can spin it any way you like, mix in any fiber if you want to, ply it with another hand spun yarn, etc. In April, we would like you to have a finished project for Show & Tell. You can make whatever you like:  a small project just of your Dreamy Goat fiber or something bigger with other yarns as long as it has some of your Dreamy Goat fiber in it. No other meeting this month. Next meeting is January 30th.

The Christmas Luncheon get-together is coming up and particulars such as date, time and place will be discussed at this next meeting. If you are a new member, our tradition is to have a hand made "sheep" tree ornament to exchange. A purchased one is definitely o.k., but you have plenty of time to look up a simple knit, crocheted, or stitched sheep to make from your handspun! A British Flock of Sheep to Knit In Carol's latest issue of a British Weaver's Journal, was a small article about a collaborative knitting project, "Give Fleece a Chance" by Claire Crompton. She and friends through out England have been making small knitted sheep from handspun and commercial yarns from wool sourced in South West England. Don't forget, there is no meeting the last Wednesday of this month. We have a special speaker and workshop scheduled for Nov. 10'th, so decided to move our date a bit. Meeting Place:    Walnut Creek United Methodist Church 1543 Sunnyvale Ave, Walnut Creek [Sunnyvale is just past Wendy's Hamburgers on North Main] We are having this event in conjunction with Diablo Weavers Guild. Neither guild will have a formal meeting. Coffee & tea at 10 AM and Donna will begin her talk at 10:30.  Program:      Donna Druchunas   talking about   "The History of Knitting in Lithuania" .  A   "Beaded, Knitted Wrister" workshop will follow at about 1 pm and go till 4 or 5 pm. Lunch will be a salad to which everyone is invited. Big bowls of lettuce will be provided and everyone who wants to stay for lunch should bring an "add-in" for the salad. Don't eat dinner, just bring an appetizer dish to share, your wheel or a latest knitting project and we will nosh and play. The "extra added attraction"? Each member who comes will go home with a bag of fiber from Dreamy Goat Design Studio as this year's fiber challenge. The plan is to have a finished skein by the December holiday party and a finished item by the April meeting. Our last fiber challenge was so much fun, you don't want to miss out on this one!
